Kua Number and Eight Mansions
Find your Kua Number, East or West Group, and your four auspicious and four inauspicious directions. Add your home facing to see how the house fits you.
About the Eight Mansions calculator
Eight Mansions (Ba Zhai) assigns every person a Kua Number from 1 to 9 based on the birth year and gender. The number places you in the East or West Group and gives four auspicious directions (Sheng Qi, Tian Yi, Yan Nian, Fu Wei) and four inauspicious ones (Huo Hai, Wu Gui, Liu Sha, Jue Ming).
The same eight stars are mapped onto a house from its sitting direction. Matching the main door, bed head and desk to your good directions is the simplest and most widely used feng shui adjustment.
Frequently asked questions
The feng shui year starts at Li Chun, around 4 February. Births before that belong to the previous year; the calculator handles this automatically.
Kua 1, 3, 4 and 9 share the same good directions (East Group); Kua 2, 6, 7 and 8 share another set (West Group).
Stand at the main door looking out and read the compass, or use the phone compass button. The facing is the direction you look toward.
